The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is an annual festival that takes place once a year during the first full moon of the Lunar Year, usually falling in February or March.

 

This magical celebration in the pretty mountain town of Pingxi fills the sky with thousands of lanterns as far as the eye can see. Not only is the entire sky filled with glittering lights, there are also many events and activities across the entire country during this time.

Historically, the festival was used by villagers to signal to those hiding in the mountains that it was safe to return home - it is now the biggest lantern festival in Taiwan, attracting 100, 000 visitors.
